Pursue Your Ambitions

Many people have lived and died without fulfilling their life’s dreams and experiencing their true belonging. As they’d grown older, they’d forsaken their own passions in favor of a manufactured lifestyle. Perhaps they’d wanted to become a musician and yet in the end they’d become an engineer. And on their death bed they reminiscence their life before they leave this world yet it was not their days in engineering they cherished with joy and fulfillment but rather their days as a child playing the piano and performing their favorite piece of music with pride and passion. And he asks himself, why did I not keep pursuing music in this life? The answer — fear. Fear of failure. And yet in his final moments, the whole concept of fear was irrelevant. What was once so intimidating to compel him to throw away his dreams was now nothing as he faced death.

There is no official meaning in life. If you were to ask multiple people what they’d think the meaning to life is, you would encounter a wide variety of ideas. In the end, the meaning to life is what we, ourselves, attribute to ourselves. For most of us, there are multiple reasons to strive to live another day and yet what is undeniably amongst them is passion. Whether that be passion for art, sports, or science — for avid enjoyers of the wide variety of practices in life, there tends to be quite a deep relationship between the individual and their passion. In this sense to pursue and fulfill your passions is the equivalent of pursuing and fulfilling your meaning to life. For there to be obstacles in this spiritual and meaningful journey is natural, yet that should not be of reason to succumb to fear and falter before your ambitions.

So be it if you fail. Failure is a step towards success. In your final moments of life, you will not be saddened that you failed but regretful that you never tried. So pursue your ambitions no matter how high and unrealistic they are. How could your life’s purpose after-all not be so grand? It is only right that it would appear intimidating. Just as happiness is only special because of sadness, success is only special because of the possibility of failure. In other words your ambition is special because it is “unrealistic”. The great men of mankind made the unrealistic, realistic. They made light out of dark and hope from despair. Be it then that your goal is “unattainable” — prove that the unattainable is attainable.
