Banyak kultur di dunia ini — dan sepertinya kita salah satunya — menganut paham tentang 3 peristiwa besar dalam hidup: lahir, kawin, mati. Sepertinya karena ini lah pertanyaan julid “kapan kawin”…

Pipley Wood Mud Bath 2019

The story of this race is told by Rhian. We first met Rhian at Bath Skyline parkrun where she was volunteering as part of her Duke of Edinburgh award. Upon completion of the her hours, she decided to keep coming along to the parkrun because she enjoyed getting involved so much.

A real desire to get involved, stuck in and help out early on a Saturday morning when most people would prefer to be doing pretty much anything else, is a rare attribute and great quality. We were delighted when Rhian said she was keen to come along and work at the races too. Here is her story of the race;

The woods were looking very eerie in the morning before the sun came out.

I started off in the registration tent handing out race numbers. I love this job because you get to chat to all the runners. One of the best parts about the Relish events is getting to know the regulars. As Pipley is always very muddy the bag drop is usually very full! For a small event we had almost half a tent full of bags a couple of layers thick which can get pretty stressful at times! After the first few waves had set off I started helping set up the medals and food which always helps spur people on!

Rhian quickly helps find a runner their number while the baggage mountain grows in the background

At this point I headed over to the finish to get ready to start timing. This is always enjoyable as you get to watch people crossing the line and see the joy and pride on everyone’s faces. At this point the mist had cleared and the sun was peaking through which gave the woods a very different feel from the morning. Although the sun was shining it was still cold but a hot chocolate was enough to warm me up.

Rhian joined the timing team last year and does a great job in one of the higher pressured roles on event day.

After the last runners came in safely, we went to get some warm food and stand by the bonfire which properly warmed me up before we started to pack down the tents.

Pack up time, fortunately the sun came out and it almost felt like Spring.

In preparation for the rain (that din’t end up coming luckily!) there were quite a few tents up for shelter so lots to pack down, but we had lots of help so it didn’t take too long. I finished around 4 and headed home to enjoy a big cup of tea!
