Drafting Plans

It still gives me chills,
When I recall -the way you called,
My name while entering the room;
A rush of excitement -and a heart attack,
Because all those emotions -they bounce right back;
When that’s no longer there -it just echoes…

It’s still empty here on these hills,
Where I roam -where I was taking notes,
Every time you would disappear;
Looking at tiny little monuments,
Where you were totally his;
You’ve got the marks to prove it…
And I waited for you there,
While you -you were drafting plans;
The retreat and withdrawal…

It’s still a mystery,
How far down you went,
While you were being swept -off your feet;
How it freed all this weight,
You had on your chest;
As if you weren’t good enough for anyone,
And I was all that was left…
I don’t blame you though;
I thought I had stolen your heart,
I thought I was doing right,
I thought it was mine…
It’s still clear to me,
Who committed the theft…

Encase these fragments,
Collect the pieces;
Let them forever rest,
On some rudimentary shrine;
God knows I’ve got the time,
To do this on my own,
I still know what it’s like;
Finding myself -I’ll take that drive,
I like long car rides…

And somewhere in the midst of that process,
I am realizing -this is the journey,
I need to take -to be a more complete “me”…
