3 Risks of Working from Home

Living in a pandemic ridden world, we are all getting used to the work from home, and at times even finding it better as it reduces our daily travel, increases the time spent with family, and in so many ways improves earth’s environment too.

While sitting at home for the last 3 months, one of the key differences I see in myself is my increasing circumference caused by the increase in weight, caused by the closeness of the Refrigerator, caused by reduction in walks to meeting rooms, office kitchen, floors, and whatnot.

Lack of physical activity can do a lot of harm in health with an increase in the cause of fatal lifestyle diseases. To manage this risk, each individual needs to come up with a plan on maintaining the necessary movement by measuring it with the use of pedometers, and by creating diet plans — to create a control on eating habits, i.e what and when.

Only mental control can help us in maintaining our physical health and keeping us healthy and safe from diseases. Mental health is the second risk to be a victim of the new work from home culture and policies.

On an average day before Covid19, I talked to 40 people daily, starting with a small talk going onto a full-fledged conversation about each other or work, understanding the deep-lying problems, and working together to solve them. In the present world, I talk to less than 10 people on average led by the lack of interaction in hallways, lifts, kitchen, and other facilities, and the conversations via digital media feel more objective focusing on work and straying away from social topics mainly led by a lack of sense of how the other person feels and the lack of these emotions causing a lack of personal connectivity.

Building and saving mental health will be an important task for each individual by engaging themselves in activities which they find peaceful, meditating from time to time, and creating social groups — virtually or in their communities to interact daily.
