COMM 206 Writing Portfolio

Jherica H. Raposa

All my life I have wanted to connect with people through writing. When I was a kid, my dream for “when I grew up” was to write children's books. Now I often consider going into news broadcast journalism. As I approach the end of my college journey here at Southern Oregon University, it's time for me to choose my next adventure in life. This is a time is my life where I need to start making some “big girl” decisions that will impact the rest of my life! I am creating a writing portfolio to collectively process my writing over time, in hopes of building a strong foundation for my career —writing pieces that have inspired me, and hopefully will infuse others will similar dreams.

In the summer of 2019, I was given the amazing opportunity of working with a local consultant company who's mission was connect community and culture. Rooting in Hawaiian values and knowledge, this company tasked me in writing various blog posts about the community. Through my work, I was not only able to learn more grammatical skills, but also highlight real issues going on in Hawaiʻi's communities.

Here is some of the pieces I wrote for their online blog page.

I have also taken interest in writing — most times my best work comes when I let my thoughts flow and I let lose. Something that I find makes my writing unique is its ability to grab the attention of my audience. My writing is an extension of my personality: who I was, who I am, and who I want to be. My writing changes as I do and always has room for growth, just like me.
