The End of The Universe

The universe is a broad subject that raises a lot of questions; How the universe came to be?, was there anything before the big bang? However the question that never came to mind was is if how and the universe will end. National Geographic’s, “End Of Universe”, dives into the question on how the universe will seize to exist.

When it comes to the talking about the universe it can seem boring or confusing to some since there are more questions than there are answers when it comes to this subject, however the film helps the viewer have a clear understanding of the topic before tackling on the question of HOW OUR UNIVERSE END,

Eventually another question make itself known, how will the universe end? This has been a question with different answers, and the two theories that have came to light were dubbed as the “Big Chill”, and the “Big Rip”. The film then has cosmologists such as Dr. Robert Caldwell whose done both research and experiments that have let him to believe in the “Big Chill” theory, which is explained as the concept that the universe will keep expanding forever and in doing so the result will be that there will be too much dark matter in the universe and that will cause the galaxies to expanding further from each other until eventually there aren’t enough stars and the sun will die out because of it.

Then you have astronomers from the California Institute of Technology explaining the “Big Rip” theory which is broken down as, since the universe is always expanding and getting faster that there eventually must be an end. Astronomers in the film inform us that eventually the universe will grow so much that it will cause a rip and cause it to explode back into its original form which is compared to the size of a marble. Though both theories claimed that these events wouldn’t occur for billions of years from now its still shocking to think about, especially when the film uses experts on this field to get it’s point across.

By Identifying these elements in the film it really broadened my view on the universe. Before watching this learning about space, galaxies, and universe wasn’t appealing but after watching this film It made me want to explore this topic more on my own. Since noting the different theories we heard from scientists, astronomers, etc. I want to explore other theories, and not just to do with the ends of the universe but the subject in whole has given me an inviting presence.

Overall this film was not what I expected, I expected to get tired from watching a film about the universe and it’s end, however as It continued my perception on the subject changed. Elements such as the different components on a scene or image that helped me as a viewer understand what I was watching. Other things like using artistic appeals like ethos by having people who have devoted their lives to this explaining both the process and results. These were a couple components that the film had that changed my view on the subject and opened a gateway for me to understand this concept of the universe and how it works.
