This Angry Adjunct Wants to Organize a Union with You

Everyday, I wake up at 6 am, make a cup of coffee, eat a banana, and get to work. I answer emails, plan lessons, think of new teaching strategies, and complete administrative duties. At night, I read labor history (Foner’s Organized Labor and the Black Worker was the last book I finished) and plan how to reconnect with another adjunct in the shared work room.

I have met incredible professors and adjuncts from LMU, Rutgers, Duke, and elsewhere who share in my desire to make this year an important one for organizing ourselves in the workplace.

Because ultimately, it is about teachers and students. “Students’ learning conditions are teachers’ working conditions” is not just a catchy protest phrase — it is the reality.
