I took one knee to the ground and tried to wake you up. When I realized you were gone was the same moment that the turbo-charged chatter in my mind came to a settle like the bone chips falling to the floor in a snow globe.

While the clock was jammed between galaxies, I brought my lips to your forehead while all those damn flies scurried. I breathed in the musty vapor of your hound-dog fur one last time and your wisdom whispered, “You too, will close your eyes forever one day.”
