BLACK AFRICANS VS BLACK DIASPORA

Why do black Africans turn up their noses at the black diaspora and vice versa?

The need to write this article has arisen from something that I read on medium a few days ago. The author shared a humiliating encounter that a close relative had at the hands of the white police and the resulting epiphany. I must point out that this is one of many stories, that one has read or heard in which the Nigerian or Ghanaian deems himself superior to African American until he is brought down a peg or two, when dealing with the largely white establishment, to which he paradoxically, concedes superiority anyway.

Why would anyone coming from a country, that was colonized by the British, French or Portuguese in Africa, with the extraordinarily violent, murderous exploitative and abusive history think that they are in a position to assume any form of superiority over a people who have had to overcome 400 years of slavery, Jim crow and yet produced the most powerful and effective leaders(Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Bayard Rustin, Carter G. Woodson,W.E.B. Du Bois) in the west?

Why would anyone who was born and bred in the greatest failed state in Africa- Nigeria- with its 7 coups (Jan ‘66, July ‘66, July ‘75, Feb ‘76, Dec ‘83, August ‘85 and Nov ‘93) devastating civil war ( 69–73), a non existent healthcare system and 20 million children out of education lay claim to having any advantages over black people from the United states,Trinidad and Grenada?

Why would anyone from Nigeria, a country, with its 3 gold medals, in nearly 70 years of competing at the Olympics, think that it’s superior to Jamaica, a country of 1.5 million people whose star athlete, Usain Bolt has nearly 3 times as many gold medals as the world’s most populous Black nation of 200 million?

This isn’t all one way, by the way, In London, England, the lazy stereotypes that emanate from black people of Caribbean extraction towards Nigerians Ghanaians and Somalians is extraordinary; African boo boo, smelly African etc.In the latest trailer of coming to america 2, these age old jokes of African children being covered in flies make a comeback, along with the western influenced narrative of Ebola Virus and these are the ones that come to mind writing this article.
